dbt and the modern data stack have been transformational in data and analytics teams to ensure they can maintain robust single source of truth on metrics and customer data, without needing incurring a lot of technical overhead.

We’ve worked with dbt since early 2018 and so have extensive experience with both dbt-core (because that’s all that existed in 2018!) and also more recently with dbt cloud. Most of our experience is with dbt running on Snowflake and redshift (including migrating existing projects between the two), but one of the big upsides of dbt is that you can be fairly agnostic in your warehouse choices and still add significant business value.

The main ways we can help are:

  • Greenfield dbt deployment. If you’ve got a different transformation framework (including homegrown solutions) or nothing at all - we can help migrate you onto a functional dbt setup to reduce your operational maintenance and attract more talent into your team.

  • dbt project audits. If you’ve got a project constructed by different people over time (which is very common in small organisations), and it’s started to become difficult to understand and maintain - then we can audit your existing project and design a roadmap to simplify and robustify what you’ve already got.

  • Continuous deployment & development practices. Often the teams which set up the transformations within a dbt project are less well equipped to streamline both the continuous testing and continuous deployment processes. Efficient deployment practices can speed up development significantly and reduce downtime by giving your team more confidence that every change they make will work and doesn’t cause any downtime or unplanned repair work. We can optimise deployment via both dbt cloud, or via GitHub actions to speed development and minimise impact on warehouse costs and performance.

  • Project Maintenance. For very small teams without a full time analytical support, we can offer an ad hoc service to support your commercial and finance teams so they can understand the performance of your product and access key metrics without the overhead of a full time analytics engineer.
