Founded by Alan Cruickshank in 2024, we draw on experience working building the data function at tails.com, but also from working with and coaching data leaders in a range of other successful UK-based startups.
While at tails.com, Alan has been recognised with inclusion in the DataIQ 100 in 2020 and receiving the First Generation CDO award at DataTalks 2018.
A14K also supports the development of SQLFluff, and can support in implementation and sponsored development projects as a result.
What’s with the name?#
A14K is inspired by the abbreviation which Andreessen Horowitz
(aka a16z) use for their venture capital firm. It’s still descriptive but skips
over hard-to-spell names (like Cruickshank) and produces an easy to remember
acronym. A14K comes from Alan’s GitHub handle
@alanmcruickshank, and takes the same approach
as a16z by simply counting the 14 letters between a and k to create: a14k.
How should I pronounce A14K?#
Based on where the name comes from above, the intent is that it’s “ay fourteen kay”. That being said, if I’m embedded in your organisation, you can just introduce me as Alan. 😁
